Synopsis

The event of this season's end features Verdi's mythical and grandiose opera, Aida, presented outdoors at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz. Set in ancient Egypt, it tells the story of Radamès, an Egyptian general who spurns the king's daughter's love in favor of Aida, a young slave who is also the daughter of the king of Ethiopia, Egypt's mortal enemy. The two lovers find themselves trapped in the conflict between their two countries. Passion, betrayal, and sacrifice intertwine in this tragic work, elevated by Verdi's music, a brilliant synthesis of French grand opera and Italian melodrama.
